Top 5 Gangster Movies of All Time

Top 5 Gangster Movies of All TimeThe idea from this and even the top 5 below came from a great article from HoosierTimes.com. Their article was the top 50 Gangster movies of all time. The list is fantastic and to be honest it is spot on even in the order that it gave them. 50 is a lot but I do recommend that you go read the full article from HoosierTimes.

5. Goodfellas – The true story of Henry Hill, a half-Irish, half-Sicilian Brooklyn kid who is adopted by neighborhood gangsters at an early age and climbs the ranks of a Mafia family under the guidance of Jimmy Conway.

4. Rififi – Out of prison after a five-year stretch, jewel thief Tony turns down a quick job his friend Jo offers him, until he discovers that his old girlfriend Mado has become the lover of local gangster Pierre Grutter during Tony’s absence. Expanding a minor smash-and-grab into a full-scale jewel heist, Tony and his crew appear to get away clean, but their actions after the job is completed threaten the lives of everyone involved.

3. The Godfather: Part II – In the continuing saga of the Corleone crime family, a young Vito Corleone grows up in Sicily and in 1910s New York. In the 1950s, Michael Corleone attempts to expand the family business into Las Vegas, Hollywood and Cuba.

2. Pulp Fiction – A burger-loving hit man, his philosophical partner, a drug-addled gangster’s moll and a washed-up boxer converge in this sprawling, comedic crime caper. Their adventures unfurl in three stories that ingeniously trip back and forth in time.

1.The Godfather – Spanning the years 1945 to 1955, a chronicle of the fictional Italian-American Corleone crime family. When organized crime family patriarch, Vito Corleone barely survives an attempt on his life, his youngest son, Michael steps in to take care of the would-be killers, launching a campaign of bloody revenge.

The blurbs above are all thanks to Letterboxd.com. Now, I hate to admit that I have not seen The Godfather Part 2 yet but it is on the list and I am sure I will plow through it soon. I also have not seen Rififi, in fact, I didn’t know that movie existed until I read this article but it looks good and I am sure that I will watch it soon as well. The fact that the list included Pulp Fiction and placed PF in the top 5 really makes me happy. Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies of all time and is worth a watch at least once a year or so,
