Michael Rooker

Born April 6, 1955

Michael Rooker defines the term gritty actor. He is the grittiest of the gritty and one of my favorite actors on the planet. The roles that he digs into are always passionate, sometimes misunderstood, and usually very strange.

Noteworthy

  • Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer – Rooker plays the titular role in this suspense-filled drama.
  • Mallrats – Svenning is the bad guy in this 1995 comedy from Kevin Smith. He was amazing in this role. This is the role that I remember seeing Rooker in first.
  • The Walking Dead – Freakin Merle. No one else could have played this role. The passion, the change from the Gov’s team to Rick’s group and even his decision to let Michonne go and try and save the day.
  • Yondu – Guardians of the Galaxy & Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 – Rolled a tear when he died in GofGV2. Holy crap he is a talented actor.

I think all the roles I’ve done have been very passionate people who go to absolute extremes to make their points.

Neck-Deep in a Long Box

Go get Neck-Deep in a Long Box! I mean it. I cannot tell you the number of hours I spent, as a kid, digging through back issues in long boxes no matter where they were. Digging through long boxes at a comic book store was one of my favorite activities as a young comic...
