Clark Gregg

Clark Gregg

Clark Gregg

Born April 2, 1962

Clark Greg first sauntered onto the small screen for me as Richard on The New Adventures of Old Christine. Sinc that time, he has taken a much bigger role in our geeky universe playing the ever-recurring role of Agent Coulson in the MCU.

Noteworthy

  • Agent Phil Coulson – Iron ManIron Man 2ThorThe AvengersAgents of SHIELDCaptain Marvel – Agent Coulson was the lynchpin for the first part of the MCU. He had small roles in some that allowed him to create this connection that worked. After meeting the character in Iron Man, we developed a relationship with this character and only Gregg could have created that connection.
  • The West Wing – Not for nothing, but he was an FBI agent on The West Wing, one of my favorite political dramas.
  • The New Adventures of Old Christine – Gregg played Richard versus Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Christine. he was her ex but he was still a huge part of her life. Such terrific chemistry.

‘The Avengers’ is exciting on the level ‘The Matrix’ or ‘Indiana Jones’ was when I was kid. I think it will be timeless.

Embrace that Movie for What It Is or Was Supposed to Be

Embrace that Movie for What It Is or Was Supposed to Be. Do not make the assumption that every movie is made to win an Oscar. Not all movies are film or art and not all films are good movies. To me, a movie is built, designed for entertainment. A movie can be...
Christian Finnegan

Christian Finnegan

Christian Finnegan

Born Aril 1, 1973

New York native Christian Finnegan is a brilliant stand up comedian. Ad to that his acting chops and his writing abilities and you have someone at home in front of the cameras or on a stage. A matter-of-fact delivery and satirical style are his calling cards all the while taking jabs at everything from politics to pop-culture.

Noteworthy

  • Chappelle’s Show – This was the first thing that I saw Finnegan in. He played the only white roommate on Chappelle’s take on The Real World.
  • Are We There Yet? – Finnegan plays the recurring role of Martin on this series that is a spin-off from the movie of the same name.
  • The Jim Gaffigan Show – Just to show that Finnegan truly is the man he has been on the Jim Gaffigan show. Just sayin’.

The thing is – I’m not an idiot. I’m rather intelligent, as proven by the fact that I just used the word ‘rather’ in a sentence.

When I Grow Up I Want to Be Nick Offerman

Christopher Walken

Christopher Walken

Christopher Walken

Born March 31, 1943

Christopher Walken is one of those actors that you look for in a movie, that you hope will pop up in a cameo for no good reason. Walken improves any film he makes an appearance in. His quirky nature, his odd delivery of lines makes him stand out from the crowd. Below are some of my favorite Christopher Walken movies. This is a short list and I have left off some obvious flicks.

Noteworthy

  • A View to a Kill – Walken is the bad guy in this Bond film that was the last in the line for Roger Moore. Walken and Grace Jones team up to take on Bond and he is a passable Bond villain. I include this movie because this might be the first thing that I remember seeing Walken in.
  • Pulp Fiction – As I said above, Walken kicks Pulp Fiction up to an even higher level. His scene with a young Butch, explaining that he carried Butch’s father’s watch in his ass is one of my favorite scenes in cinematic history.
  • The Prophecy – This is a lesser known Christopher Walken movie. He plays the angel Gabriel and in this movie, Gabriel is the bad guy.
  • Joe Dirt – Another of my favorite Christopher Walken roles. His casting as Clem, the gangster, turned school janitor on the run from the mob was perfect casting.

There are people who are able to plan their career, their future, but I’ve never had any talent for that. I just do things and hope for the best. Say yes, take a chance, and sometimes it’s terrific and sometimes it’s not.

-Christopher Walken

This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Freebird

It never fails, I’m walking through a farmers’ market and I hear someone in a hushed tone say ‘oh my god, did you see how much that (fill in the blank) was?’  Usually, it is because of an $18 hen, $8 dozen eggs, or a $38 New York strip.  These prices seem...

Gene Wilder – You Will Be Missed

We lost a star in the comedy firmament on August 29, 2016. I thought about getting this article out the day e passed but I wanted to make sure I had time to think about what I wanted to write, how I wanted to pay tribute, so I waited. All of that being said, Gene...

Star Wars: The FanBoy Awakens

I am a bit late to the party when it comes to Star Wars: The Force Awakens but it certainly is enough of a pop-culture phenom that I want to take some time to give it some love. For me this could have been renamed - Star Wars: The FanBoy Awakens! First things first, I...

Paul Reiser

Paul Reiser

Paul Reiser

Born March 30, 1957

Paul Reiser has helped to shape our popular culture through his comedy, his writing, his roles in movies or television. Whether you are enjoying Reiser trading quips with a talk show host or appearing on the large or small screen, Reiser’s own views and way of telling a story shine through.

Noteworthy

  • Aliens – Reiser was Burke in Aliens. While this is not my favorite part of the Aliens franchise I did dig Paul Reiser in this role.
  • My Two Dads – This is the first thing that I ever saw Paul Reiser in. I loved this show. It was a typical 80s sitcom. It had some very funny parts and tried to wing a little drama at you from time to time.
  • Mad About You – Potentially this is Resier most famous role. He was Paul Buchman for the full 162 episodes opposite the always amazing Helen Hunt. Great 90s sitcom that again had a little drama to go along with the funny.
  • Stranger Things – This is one of the best things that Netflix has ever turned out. Resier is Dr Sam Owens on the show. If you have not reached this point in Resier career… stop reading this and go watch Stranger Things.

And after you’ve done the acting, there’s a lot of places you can put your input – in the editing, in the production of it, in the rewriting of it and so on.

-Paul Reiser

Martin Lawrence

Martin Lawrence Born April 16, 1965   I first remember Martin Lawrence as a stand-up comedian. After that, he made the move to the small screen and then to movies. The whole time, Lawrence has kept his sense of humor, his sense of self and he has continued to turn out...

Lucy Lawless, New Zealand born actress and singer, has been a pop-culture icon since the early 1990s. From Xena: Warrior Princess to her latest work on Ash vs Evil Dead, Lawless spans the world and genres. She helped create the woman-power fueled TV series and kept Xena running for years – a show that is still beloved by its fans.

Noteworthy

  • Xena: Warrior Princess – 134 Episodes across 6 seasons. This role made Lucy Lawless an international star and set her star much higher in the firmament of Hollywood.
  • Parks and Recreation – Lawless on Parks and Rec was perfect. She is such a talented actress and is so funny that she fit perfectly into that cast of odd characters. She and Nick Offerman are perfect as a couple.
  • Ash vs Evil Dead – Lawless and Bruce Campbell. There might not be a more perfect team-up on screen. They have both played these larger than life roles and having them on screen together is perfect.

Treat everyone the same until you find out they’re an idiot.
