Paul Reiser

Paul Reiser

Paul Reiser

Born March 30, 1957

Paul Reiser has helped to shape our popular culture through his comedy, his writing, his roles in movies or television. Whether you are enjoying Reiser trading quips with a talk show host or appearing on the large or small screen, Reiser’s own views and way of telling a story shine through.

Noteworthy

  • Aliens – Reiser was Burke in Aliens. While this is not my favorite part of the Aliens franchise I did dig Paul Reiser in this role.
  • My Two Dads – This is the first thing that I ever saw Paul Reiser in. I loved this show. It was a typical 80s sitcom. It had some very funny parts and tried to wing a little drama at you from time to time.
  • Mad About You – Potentially this is Resier most famous role. He was Paul Buchman for the full 162 episodes opposite the always amazing Helen Hunt. Great 90s sitcom that again had a little drama to go along with the funny.
  • Stranger Things – This is one of the best things that Netflix has ever turned out. Resier is Dr Sam Owens on the show. If you have not reached this point in Resier career… stop reading this and go watch Stranger Things.

And after you’ve done the acting, there’s a lot of places you can put your input – in the editing, in the production of it, in the rewriting of it and so on.

Lucy Lawless

Lucy Lawless

Lucy Lawless

Born March 29, 1968

Lucy Lawless, New Zealand born actress and singer, has been a pop-culture icon since the early 1990s. From Xena: Warrior Princess to her latest work on Ash vs Evil Dead, Lawless spans the world and genres. She helped create the woman-power fueled TV series and kept Xena running for years – a show that is still beloved by its fans.

Noteworthy

  • Xena: Warrior Princess – 134 Episodes across 6 seasons. This role made Lucy Lawless an international star and set her star much higher in the firmament of Hollywood.
  • Parks and Recreation – Lawless on Parks and Rec was perfect. She is such a talented actress and is so funny that she fit perfectly into that cast of odd characters. She and Nick Offerman are perfect as a couple.
  • Ash vs Evil Dead – Lawless and Bruce Campbell. There might not be a more perfect team-up on screen. They have both played these larger than life roles and having them on screen together is perfect.

Treat everyone the same until you find out they’re an idiot.

Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn

Born March 28, 1970

Vince Vaughn is fantastic. I love him in every role that I see him in. And, as you may have heard one more than one of our podcasts – I want him to be in every movie. And if he can’t have a speaking role just have him walk through the scene and wave at the camera. We need more Vince Vaughn. Vaughn delivers fast-paced dialogue better than anyone else. I am going to try and include some of the snippets from the movies below just for reference. I bet you can hear him speaking the lines.

Noteworthy

  • Swingers – This was the first major motion picture that I remember seeing Vaughn in. I can sum this movie up with one line: Baby, that was money! Tell me that wasn’t money.
  • Clay Pigeons – Vaughn as Lester the Molester: Some people just need-NEED-killing.
  • Psycho – No dialogue from this one. This movie a few others are proof of just how talented an actor Vaughn is. It takes someone special to step into Anthony Perkins shoes.
  • Dodgeball – The stripper was meant to be congratulatory.
  • Anchorman – What, you guys can’t say one thing? Even the guy that can’t think said something. You guys just stand there? Come on.
  • Wedding Crashers – Yeah, it could have been the soft mattress. Or the midnight rape. Or the nude gay art show that took place in my room. One of those probably added to the lack of sleep.

My father came from nothing, so he believed that people could do anything if they worked hard enough. I think he liked that I chose to be an actor. Both he and my mom were totally supportive.

To Kill a Mocking-Jay

Oh, to Kill a Mocking-Jay. A few minutes of DragonCon exposure and my mind is unfurling in ways it hasn’t since my first warehouse rave in the year 2000; a psychotropic may or may not have had something to do with the trippiness of that former experience.  Likewise,...

You Hate Anchovies You Say- Balderdash!

Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino

Born March 27, 1963

I am a Quentin Tarantino complete-ist. I am in it for the long haul. Even the flicks of his that might not be my favorites, I will watch and watch multiple times. He has a style that I dig. A sensibility that really works for me. Inventive and strange at times, Quentin Tarantino writes and directs the odd and wonderful.

Noteworthy

  • Reservoir Dogs – This was the first. This is the movie that set the stage for everything else. While not as famous as Pulp Fiction it was the first time we saw a Tarantino movie.
  • Pulp Fiction – This is my favorite. The cast, the acting performances, the story, the atmosphere – this may have been the first time that we routed for the anti-hero. This may be the first time that we didn’t know who the hero was.
  • Death Proof – Or maybe this is my favorite. Old school car chases and stunts. Zoe freaking Bell. Rosario Dawson. Let’s introduce a bunch of characters, kill them and then introduce some more characters. Damn what a fun movie.
  • Inglorious Basterds – Only Tarantino can get away with re-writing WWII and killing Hitler off with Brad Pitt as the lead and Eli Roth as the Bear Jew. I want to watch it on the big screen again.

When I make a film, I am hoping to reinvent the genre a little bit. I just do it my way. I make my own little Quentin versions of them… I consider myself a student of cinema. It’s almost like I am going for my professorship in cinema, and the day I die is the day I graduate. It is a lifelong study.
