Anthony Head

Anthony Head

Anthony Head

Born February 20, 1954

Anthony Head or Anthony Stewart Head as he was known in pre-Buffy syndication times. He was freaking Giles. One of the best characters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was the mentor to that whole group and was the pivot of the plot on a lot of episodes.

Noteworthy

  • Buffy The Vampire Slayer – Giles the Watcher. Perfectly cast. No one else could have done this role.
  • BTVS – Episode: The Gift – Click here to watch the scene – This is my all time favorite Giles scene in the entire show. He has been training Buffy to kill Vampires and Demons for years. He explains to Ben/Glory that she can’t kill him because he is human – because Buffy is not like “us.” The “us” he is talking about is he and Ben/Glory. Giles then puts his hand over Ben’s nose and mouth and suffocates him. Damn…
  • Little Britain – Head plays the Prime Minister. Hilarity ensues. I love Little Britain and Tony Head playing the straight guy to the rest of the cast as the PM is perfect casting.

We all sing about the things we’re thinking; musicals are about expressing those emotions that you can’t talk about. It works a real treat.

Top 5 Kevin Smith Movies

How to Talk Your Wife into The Walking Dead

Noteworthy

  • Snowden – JGL take son the biopic about Edward Snowden. His ability to take on someone’s likeness, characteristics and life prove how amazing he is as an actor.
  • The Walk – JGL explores the life and walks in the shoes of high-wire artist Philippe Petit. He again takes to the biopic to show off his acting skills. Great movie.
  • Don Jon – Love this flick. Don Jon is a Jersey guy that has a real porn addiction that has clouded how he sees women and relationships. Careful who you watch this with. 🙂
  • 50/50 – JGL and Seth Rogen tread on serious territory working with a script inspired by a true story. Adam learns that he has cancer and he and Kyle try to deal with it the best that they can.

Celebrity doesn’t have anything to do with art or craft. It’s about being rich and thinking that you’re better than everybody else.

Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn Born March 28, 1970   Vince Vaughn is fantastic. I love him in every role that I see him in. And, as you may have heard one more than one of our podcasts - I want him to be in every movie. And if he can't have a speaking role just have him walk...

Plantains- The Other Starch of the Americas

I’ve been a pretty fortunate gringo as I am blessed with three families, one by blood and two by adoption of sorts.  After I moved to DC in the early 2000s not knowing a person in the world I quickly made two friends, one Colombian and the other Cuban; both obviously...

Rick Astley

Rick Astley

Rick Astley – Born February 6, 1966

My sister was a Rick Astley fan. As a little brother, I also had to be a Rick Astley fan. He had some great songs back in the 80s and quite a few that I still listen to.

Noteworthy

  • Never Gonna Give You Up on his freshmen album Whenever You Need Somebody – I love this song and can sing most of it whenever I am Rick-Rolled or when I add it to an 80s compilation on Spotify.
  • Rickrolling – This internet phenom started out in 2007. This is the act of leading someone to think they are going to see one thing and then showing them Rick Astley video to Never Gonna Give You Up.

So, even though this is an article about Rick Astley, if you watched the video, Never Gonna Give You Up is now stuck in your head and you have been Rick Rolled.

I don’t get recognized until I’m on stage, and then I can walk off and forget about it. It’s great.

Bruce Willis Born March 19, 1955   Bruce Willis is a part of pop-culture. From the Seagram's ads back in the 80s and Moonlighting to the Die Hard movies, he has shaped how we look at leading men and what those leading men can look like and what they can do on screen....

Sherilyn Fenn

Sherilyn Fenn - Born February 1, 1965 Sherilyn Fenn first popped on to my radar and a lot of other peoples when she was starring in Twin Peaks in the early 90s. This show was a huge change in TV and it still holds up to a re-watch or two or three. Noteworthy Twin...

To Kill a Mocking-Jay

Oh, to Kill a Mocking-Jay. A few minutes of DragonCon exposure and my mind is unfurling in ways it hasn’t since my first warehouse rave in the year 2000; a psychotropic may or may not have had something to do with the trippiness of that former experience.  Likewise,...

Must See TV

Ed Helms

Ed Helms

Ed Helms – Born January 24, 1974

Ed Helms is one of my favorite performers alive today. I say, performer, because he is way more than just an actor. Whether he is improvising, singing, or acting, Ed Helms is one of those people that brings a smile to your face. As usual, below is a list of the things that I find noteworthy – let me know if I missed one of your favorites.

Noteworthy

  • The Hangover – Very funny movie and though the whole cast was perfect, Ed Helms is one of the standouts in a whole set of standouts. He works the sadsack character better than anyone has since Daniel Stern in City Slickers.
  • Vacation – Had you told me when I was younger watching Vacation movies that someone would eventually take Chevy Chase’s place, I would have told you that you were full of shit. Watching Ed HElms take the patriarchal role in this franchise really works. It works to the point that I would love to see Ed Helms try on some other Chevy Chase roles. I think he could be the new Fletch.
  • The Office – Big fan of the American version of The Office. Andy Bernard worked really well on that show and was really the perfect person to step into the manager’s role.
  • The Lonesome Trio – In case you are unfamiliar, this is Ed Helms bluegrass group. They are amazing. Helms plays Banjo and sings. They are on Spotify. I keep this album downloaded a lot.

I try to explain to people that you get the roles that are right when they’re right. If you have a nerd character but you’re kind of a cool guy, you’re probably not going to get the nerd part. The nerd is going to get the nerd part. You know, someone like me.

Star Wars: The FanBoy Awakens

I am a bit late to the party when it comes to Star Wars: The Force Awakens but it certainly is enough of a pop-culture phenom that I want to take some time to give it some love. For me this could have been renamed - Star Wars: The FanBoy Awakens! First things first, I...
