Rick Moranis has been a part of my Geeks World for as long as I can remember. From Ghostbusters to Spaceballs and beyond he has been a part of some of the biggest geek-fests in the world. I miss Rick Moranis but I get the fact that he is a single dad now and raising kids.

Noteworthy

  • Ghostbusters – This is one of my favorite comedies of all time. Moranis plays one of those secondary roles that is so outstanding that the movie would not have worked without him in it.
  • Little Shop of Horrors – Seymour is one of the roles that I would love to play on stage. Rick Moranis made me fall in love with this character.
  • Spaceballs – Moranis as Dark Helmet – “And I see your Schwartz is as big as mine…”
  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids – Completely dug this movie as a kid. Liked all of the spin-offs too.
  • Splitting Heirs – Here is one you might not be familiar with. Moranis and Monty Python alum Eric Idle as kids switched at birth. Holy crap it is a funny movie.

I’m a single parent, and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit of a break. And the little bit of a break turned into a longer break, and then I found that I really didn’t miss it.

  • Bad Boys – The first one is still the best. Will Smith and Martin Larence pull of the action flick buddy cop movie without any problems.
  • Martin – This self-titled TV series was a huge success and ran for 132 episodes.
  • Life – Lawrence teams with Eddie Murphy in this prison comedy that had a lot of heart and passion.
  • Big Momma’s House – Lawrence is undercover as Big Momma. Gender-bending all the way to the bank.
  • Open Season – Lawrence voices Boog the Bear opposite Ashton Kutcher’s Elliot the Deer. I am going to have to watch this again soon now.

You might see some of the movies that I’m in where there are shades of drama or whatever, but for the most part, I don’t get offered serious roles.

  • Nanny McPhee – Very strange movie. Very strange role.
  • Saving Mr Banks – Thompson played the lady that created the character of Mary Poppins. She and Hanks were perfect together in the roles of Travers and Disney.

If you’ve got to my age, you’ve probably had your heart broken many times. So it’s not that difficult to unpack a bit of grief from some little corner of your heart and cry over it.

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Freaking Buffy! This is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. For 7 seasons she was all girl power all the time. Though I would still claim the show was really about the redemption of Spike.
  • Cruel Intentions – SMG as a bad girl. We knew she had it in her.
  • Scooby-Doo – There is not a better Daphne then SMG. This cast was perfect together and it is my favorite of the live-action Scooby-Do movies.
  • I Know What You Did Last Summer – Though she was not the lead in IKWYDLS, she was so stinking good in this. Not as good as Scream but SMG kicked it up a notch.

I actually go to the gym much more now than I did when I was on Buffy. I like to stay fit, because that’s when I feel really healthy. But I never worked out for any kind of image. People have said to me, ‘Do you starve yourself before photo shoots?’ And I always say, ‘No way.! That’s what airbrushing is for. I had french fries last night.’
