Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot

Born April 30, 1985

Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman. Take that in for a minute. She is a trained Israeli soldier which means that the moves you see her do are for real and she can kick your ass. And you will like it.

Noteworthy

  • Keeping Up with the Jones – Gadot and Jon Hamm are the spies neighbors to Isla Fisher and Zach Galifianakis. This is such a well put together movie. The acting is good, the plot is good, and the comedic bits are funny. What more can you ask for? Plus Gadot and Hamm look great together.
  • Furious 7 – Gadot in a fast car saving the team. It is amazing. I really dug the introduction of Gadot to the family.
  • Batman vs Superman – She was one of the few highlights for me in a movie that I really didn’t care for. The shot of her sliding across the ground after getting hit by Doomsday, skidding to a stop, and then smiling – worth the price of admission.
  • Wonder Woman – Loved the whole movie until the ending with Ares – listen to the podcast and you will hear more on this. Gadot rocks the role of Wonder Woman and I hope they keep it rolling.

Wonder Woman, she’s amazing. I love everything that she represents and everything that she stands for. She’s all about love and compassion and truth and justice and equality, and she’s a whole lot of woman.

Zooey Deschanel Triple Threat

Zooey Deschanel Stick around read what I write or what I say on this website enough and you will learn that I highly revere those actors, actresses, and creators of Hollywood's heyday. I would also contend that the actors and actresses of the 40s, 50s, and 60s had to...

This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Freebird

It never fails, I’m walking through a farmers’ market and I hear someone in a hushed tone say ‘oh my god, did you see how much that (fill in the blank) was?’  Usually, it is because of an $18 hen, $8 dozen eggs, or a $38 New York strip.  These prices seem...

Bryan Cranston Born March 7, 1956   Bryan Cranston hit my radar when he was on Seinfeld, one of the best sitcoms ever. Then he was on Malcolm in the Middle - another of my favorites that I have binge-ed through several times. Then he changes gears and he is the...

Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman

Born April 29, 1970

Uma Thurman first slid into my view as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction and though I have not been as obsessed as Tarantino, I do tend to seek out movies that she is in. There is something raw about the way that she delivers dialogue and action. It makes her interesting to watch.

Noteworthy

  • Pulp Fiction – Again, first thing that I saw her in. I love her as Mia. The reaction when she is stabbed in the heart by the needle the huge intake of breath – perfect. Also, I love how nervous she tends to make Travolta.
  • Batman & Robin – Thurman is the best villain in the bunch in this movie. She makes a great Poison Ivy. The movie as a whole was completely over the top but she was excellent as a villain.
  • Kill Bill 1 & Kill Bill 2 – The Bride. I don’t know that I need to dig much further into it. Thurman is The Bride and she does, in fact, kill Bill.
  • The Producers – No one else could have played Ulla opposite Balistock and Blom in the musical version of The Producers. You really want to see Thurman take on more musical roles after you watch this.
  • My Super Ex-Girlfriend – Not the best thing she has ever been in but I dig it. Thurman has superpowers, her boyfriend breaks up with her – that was a mistake.

Desperation is the perfume of the young actor. It’s so satisfying to have gotten rid of it. If you keep smelling it, it can drive you crazy. In this business a lot of people go nuts, go eccentric, even end up dead from it. Not my plan.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba

Born April 28, 1981

Jessica Alba started out acting as a teenager and has been turning out great entertainment for all of us ever since then. She is one of those actresses that makes interesting choices and elevates the role.

Noteworthy

  • Idle Hands – I college students right hand has a mind of its own. Alba is one of the characters with hands that don’t have murderous intent. This was the first movie that I saw Alba in.
  • Sin City – Alba is little Nancy. I love the feel and the film work of this movie. Alba is one of the pivotal characters and a lot of the plot hinges on her.
  • Fantastic Four – Alba is Sue Storm. No, really Alba is Sue Storm. I thought she was perfect as her quarter of Marvel’s first family.
  • Machete – You got to love a movie that jumped from a fake trailer in another movie to the big screen. Alba is fantastic.

You have to be the best of whatever you are, but successful, cool actresses come in all shapes and sizes.

Kevin James

Kevin James

Kevin James

Born April 26, 1965

Kevin James is a truly funny guy. He has played a variety of roles and he seems to be able to play just about any role, some of which we will dig into below. He is very deft at physical humor but then you watch him act and emote and he is a very talented as an actor.

Noteworthy

  • Hitch – This was the first movie that I remember Kevin James in. He was fantastic in this role. In particular, the training montage with Will Smith is one of the funniest things that Will Smith has been involved in, in a long time.
  • The King of Queens – Doug Heffernan, as a character, ran across three different shows. Doug was the springboard for Kevin James onto the large screen and really gave a jolt to his career. Add Leah Remini to this and it is no wonder that James is as big a star as he is.
  • I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry – Kevin James and Adam Sandler are box office gold. Having them marry each other for health benefits – genius. Such a funny thought provoking movie.
  • Paul Blart: Mall Cop – Bag on this movie all you want. They had me when he slid across the floor and didn’t quite make it to cover. Laughed my ass off.
  • Here Comes the Boom – A much more trim Kevin James learning to MMA fight to save a program in his school. Bizarre plot great flick. Loved it.

There’s no better feeling in the world than a warm pizza box on your lap.

Jason Lee

Jason Lee

Jason Lee

Born April 25, 1970

Jason Lee has been someone I have watched in everything they have been in since I saw him in Mallrats back in the day. Love his acting style and love the way he approaches a character.

Noteworthy

  • Mallrats – Lee is Brodie. Brodie is Lee. This is still my favorite character that he has ever performed. The delivery is amazing and so much fun to watch.
  • Dogma – Lee is a bad guy. He is Azrael a bad angel looking to help end the world.
  • The Incredibles -Lee is the voice of Syndrome. I don’t think that it would have been quite as good without Jason Lee voicing the bad guy.
  • My Name is Earl – A storyline based around Karma with a kinda white-trash set of characters. Such a timeless and amusing show. Very re-watchable unless you are my wife. She hates it.

I was a little nerdy, but I got along with everybody. I had fun at school – skateboarding, surfing, getting kicked out of class for making too much noise.

-Jason Lee
